We certainly never started out with the intent to become breeders.
We had 2 senior dogs that I knew were going to pass soon.
They were 15 and 16 years old, a pom and a poodle/pom mix. I
couldn't bear the thought of how sad I would be if I lost them both
close together. I told my husband I needed a puppy. Of
course, he said no, when these were gone that would be it. We
would not get any more. Famous last words right? Well I took
him to the pet store every chance I had. I had my heart set on a
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I kept showing them to him and he
just really didn't want that breed. We had at one time, a cocker
spaniel, that ate everything in site, and they just reminded him way too
much of that dog. Out of desperation one Sunday, when he was once
again telling me I couldn't have the Cavalier, I said, well how about
that little Japanese Chin? He said what is a Chin? I had seen them
before, and they are absolutely the cutest puppies ever. We took
her out and she was so docile and sweet, even he fell in love with her..
She came home with us that afternoon. That was Betty Boop.
She was such a perfect puppy. She didn't bark, chew, or dig or any
of the things we expected from a puppy. It is truly a wonderful
breed. Not quite 2 weeks later, my husband called me on the way
from work, and said he had stopped by the pet store. (yes, can you
believe it? all by himself just to see the puppies...He was hooked.)
He said, "you won't believe, now they have a little male, and I'm coming
to get you, I want you to see him too." Well, I hadn't even
thought of getting another one, but I thought, it would be fun to have a
litter... Needless to say, Mikki Mouse came home with us too.
A couple of months later, I saw an ad in the newspaper for a red and
white chin - SuChi, I said well if we are going to have puppies
one day, it only makes sense to get another female, especially since she
is red and white... we don't have one. And so it began.
We loved each one even more than the last. We added one at a time as
puppies and watched them grow. Soon we realized that we had out
grown our house with the little back yard in the suburbs and knew we
needed a house with a yard they could all run and play. Now we are
on an acre and they roam every foot of it. The original to
dogs did pass and they were missed, but now our days are filled with so
much puppy love. They are all very special and we are glad to be
able to place each one in their forever homes, knowing that their new
owners will be delighted as they get to know them as well.
Yes, eventually I even got my way once again and added the King Charles
Spaniels. They are as delightful as I had read, and my husband was
immediately smitten with that breed as well. That is how we
became Rogers Rascals.
Our dogs are never caged and
live in the house with us and have doggie doors to come and go as they
please. Their puppies are well socialized and have grown up with
the pack. We do not ship our puppies. As we like to put it, "They are home raised and
pre - spoiled." All you need to add is love.
